Israeli develops piston engine that runs on water, alcohol – no gas
Israeli inventor Yehud Shmueli redesigned a traditional piston engine to use a mixture of 70% water and 30% alcohol instead of gasoline or diesel.
According to the engineer, the new system can be easily applied to any existing internal combustion engine. He also claims that after modernization, the engine saves up to 50% on fuel, operates 60% more efficiently due to high torque, and does not emit harmful oxides of sulfur and nitrogen into the atmosphere..
After six years of developing and refining the system, he formed the startup MayMaan Research to offer automakers a greener alternative to diesel engines. The company has built four working prototypes to date, including options for a passenger car and a generator..
Such an engine is versatile, since not only ethanol, but also any other alcohol can be used to create a fuel mixture, and liquid fuel does not require special storage and transportation conditions.
MayMaan says electrically powered engines cannot replace diesel engines used in trucks, ships, generators and large equipment, so they are confident in the success of their technology..
We also previously reported on the development of an electro-hydraulic valve system that saves 20% fuel by optimizing gas exchange in a spark ignition ICE..
